WLJS, the campus radio station of Jacksonville State University, will celebrate 45 years on the air in 2020. Throughout those years it has seen thousands of students come and go - many to move on to careers in broadcasting that started right here. When the resounding words "IT WORKS" rang out through the air over the friendliest campus it started a new aspect for the Communication Department of JSU. Students will be able to gain real world experience in their field before leaving college.
The radio station became known as "92-J" and quickly became a staple to the community. Some very notable talents once graced the studios as air talents, and we have even had artists visit the station for interviews. Weezer, Extreme, Tenacious D (YES, Jack Black), Ruth Pointer of The Pointer Sisters and many many others have sat behind a mic at what is now WLJS 91.9 fm.
